Power Line Services Restores Power after Ice Storm
January 2, 2014

A severe ice storm blanketed Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri December 6, 2013 leaving over 13,000 people without power. This same storm had left more than 250,000 without power in Dallas area earlier in the day. This early December storm was declared one of the worst to strike the area in years.
Power Line Services was called to help restore power to the ice laden Arkansas grid, work that lasted well into January 2014. Hampering the initial recovery efforts was clearing the downed debris and opening the access roads. Sister companies Auger Services and Air2 assisted in the recovery efforts.
Safety for the linemen in these conditions is always a consideration, the crews had to be prepared for the colder temperatures and therefore required heavier work clothing. The safety team checks for proper treads on the crew boots to prevent slipping and the gloves must allow flexibility, while at the same time protecting from the cold. All these issues and more are addressed during the emergency response from an ice event.
